Meet the Pastor

Dr. James Edward King is God’s chosen, anointed servant leader, Pastor and
Founder of The Land of Promise Church in Fredericksburg, VA. Pastor King’s
vision for the church began April 7, 1996 and culminated in its present location
with a spiritual dedication on March 20, 2005.

Dr. King is a native of Portsmouth, VA. He earned a Doctor of Ministry Degree with emphasis on the church in the community from Howard University School of Divinity. He holds a Masters of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University School of Theology and has received a BS Degree in counseling from Old Dominion University. Dr. King completed the Scholars Program at Oxford University in Oxford, England and is featured in the book Oxford Sermons 2006.

Local government officials called upon Dr. King to help organize the National Day of Prayer following the tragedy of 9-11. He was the guest speaker at George Washington’s birthplace honoring Mary Bowden and the Bowden’s of Popes Creek where he delivered the powerful original poem entitled, “I Am Here!” which has gained national recognition.

Dr. King is an advocate for higher education and has served as an adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Germanna Community College in Fredericksburg, VA. He is also active in the community and partnered with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Department in a series of community town hall meetings in the aftermath of police violence and serves on the community advisory board.

Dr. King is the author of two books, He’s Driving Me Crazy and Word of Promise. He is married to Dr. Lisa King and they are the parents of two sons, James II and John Alexander, and a special daughter, Ebony.
